The Randy Jay Miniature House
Randy Jay, a long-time resident of Marietta, spent his career in the newspaper industry, beginning in his hometown of Augusta, Georgia with The Augusta Chronicle after graduation from the School of Journalism at the University of Georgia. He was a member of the original editorial team for The Atlanta Times, a newspaper created in the 1960s to challenge the Atlanta Journal/Constitution. In 1965, Randy joined the staff of Marietta Daily Journal as managing editor, marking the beginning of his love affair with the city of Marietta and Cobb County. In his time at the MDJ, he helped establish a group of Neighbor Newspapers throughout metropolitan Atlanta. He moved to the Atlanta Journal/Constitution in the early 1970s to direct their community publications and spent 28 years there in various editorial positions.

Randy''s love of beauty and home décor was evident in his volunteer service as a member of the Board of Directors of Brumby Hall and at the Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art.

To many Mariettans, Randy''s elegant party-giving talents were an important part of the Christmas season. He loved decorating his home in The Oaks and creating beautiful displays of his extensive nutcracker collection. With his mother, who lived with him in her later years, Randy created major holiday collections including a complete Dickens Village and an angels tree, decorated with angels he bought on his travels with his mother and others.

In retirement, Randy devoted much time and resources to creating his spectacular miniature house. He traveled to miniature shows throughout the country to buy custom items, as well as adding to the décor during his many travels abroad to countries including China, Russia, England, France and Germany. There are personalized items throughout the house, including a replica of his beloved cat, Rocky.

Randy died on April 21, 2006, and it was his wish that his beautiful house be shared with all those who loved beauty in Marietta.

In Loving Memory,
Becky Smith
