(Paint stripped, small area of dry rot) H116" W77 1/2" D9 1/2" *Note: This mantle was removed from an historical home in Fairfield County. This home was referred to as the Doctor W. K. Turner place. It was long considered to be one of the most impressive plantation houses in the county. The house was located on the Winnsboro-Newberry Highway not far from Little River. It was a large two-and-one-half story building with a gable roof. Before the Revolutionary War it was part of the vast Winn Estate. The mansion was built by the Palmers in the early 1800's and it then passed to James Lemmon before the Civil War. He gave it to his daughter Elizabeth when she and Doctor W. K. Turner were married. This excerpt was taken from 'A Fairfield Sketchbook, by Julian Stevenson Bolick'.
