Southern slave-made stoneware jug, Dave Edgefield, South Carolina, dated 1849
rich alkaline glaze having dramatic runs at all sides with double ring-tooled spout attached to thick pulled and applied strap handle ending in thumbprint, on bulbous tapering form bearing inscription "LM Aug 13: 1849" at upper body.

Provenance: New York private collection.

    Condition:
  • Tight hairline occuring at upper body horizontal issuing a small 1/8" chip at mid hairline, small 3/8" chip to spout having glaze runs and skips as made, overall good condition wear consistent with age.
