Description:

Southern stoneware Edgefield District "Dave" storage jar circa 1856
alkaline glazed, having high lug tab handles and well-formed lip with ovoid shape bearing the inscription "LM Feb 1856 Dave" along with two slash marks and four dots.

Provenance: From the estate of Mary Kaigler Wolfe of Sandy Run, South Carolina.

    Condition:
  • Rim interior with flaw flake and exterior of back with rim chip (approx.. 2-inches). Left handle underside with similar chip. The reserve with small pit-chip leading spider hairlines; the damage does not appear to affect the interior. Overvall in very nice condition with inherent firing flaws and glaze imperfects, with nice unusual glaze coloration.
