Tortoiseshell singing bird automaton, by Bontems Paris, last quarter 19th century, engraved silvered lid opens allowing bird with moving wings, bone beak, tail and perch to rise through gilded grill atop tortoiseshell box with hinged compartment on reverse.

    Condition:
  • Case with minor scratches and minor, short split, hinged back door opens for key storage, working condition in the gallery however we do not guarantee mechanical devices to be operational after they leave the gallery, bellows appear to be slightly stiff as bird chirps could be louder and crisper.
