Description:

Two Campillian swords, possibly from the Phillipines late 19th century
wood hilt and crosspiece, copper wire and cord grips, steel blade.
overall L38 1/4" and 38 3/4", blade L27 1/2" and 30 1/2"

Provenance: Property deaccessioned from the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso to benefit the Museum Collections Fund. (Accession #E36.85.258 on left ricasso, E36.85.357 on right ricasso)

Other Notes: Originally the national weapon of the Sea Dyaks of Borneo, adopted by the Moros of Sulu and Mindanao. Usually decorated with tufts of hair.

    Condition:
  • Blades are rusty, both have two holes in hilt where a plaque was removed. The shorter sword with copper wire wrap is partially loose. Three holes present for attaching hair, hair is missing. Iron handguard is darkly rusted. The longer has a large section of wood missing from crossguard, which is loose. Handguards heavily rusted.
