Description:

Two Continental silver-mounted coconut vessels circa 1900 mount on rim chased with floral band, one with tortoise shell coloration to body, other with caramel coloration to body, both with double-beaded mount at base with lion's paw feet, one possibly silverplate. (Good condition) H6 1/4" and H5 1/4" *Note: Tropical coconuts from distant lands were highly prized by Americans and Europeans alike; they regularly appear in the silver inventories of the nobility. They were often heavily carved, and sometimes mounted with ivory and silver. It is commonly thought that seamen created them while at sea.
