U.S. Artillery officer's saber and scabbard circa 1815-25
brass 5-ball hilt, eaglehead pommel, bone grip, 5-ball counterguard, etched blade; together with leather scabbard with brass mount.

Provenance: Property deaccessioned from the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso to benefit the Museum Collections Fund. (Accession #55.45.3 inked on crossguard and on throat of top mount of scabbard)

Purchased by Norm Flayderman, Wallingford Hall, Kennebunk, Maine.

From the most important American sword collection of Philip Medicus, New York, New York.

Other Notes: Flayderman calls this an Infantry officer's saber but there is no trace of silvering, which implies artillery or militia, which used gilt mounts.

    Condition:
  • Hilt in fine condition, some dark staining toward point of blade. Scabbard in very good condition.
