U.S. Brown bolt action rifle circa 1869-73
NVSN; .58 caliber rimfire, single shot, walnut stock, marked "BROWN MFG. CO. NEWBURYPORT, MASS, PATENTED OCT. 17, 1871" on bolt, "BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS TRADE" in a circle around a crown over "S B over T A" on right side of butt.

Provenance: Property deaccessioned from the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso to benefit the Museum Collections Fund. (Accession #57.02.01 inked on stock in front of triggerguard)

    Condition:
  • Good blue. Stock is from an Enfield style gun; wood has been replaced on both sides at the breech and stock is broken at rear of triggerguard. Bolt inoperable; locking latch will not move.
