Description:

U.S. Infantry officer's sword and scabbard circa 1827-40, steel hilt, bird's-head pommel, bone grip, etched blade; marked "A:W: SPIES" on reverse ricasso; together with steel scabbard.

Provenance: Property deaccessioned from the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso to benefit the Museum Collections Fund. (Accession #55.38.4 inked on crossguard)

Purchased by Norm Flayderman, Wallingford Hall, Kennebunk, Maine.

    Condition:
  • Grip cracked on both sides at pommel, brass disk with "75" is attached to hilt with fine wire. Blade in excellent condition, scabbard with light areas of rusting. Both carrying rings are missing.
