Description:

U.S. Allen & Wheelock .44 lipfire revolver circa 1860
serial number 170; Army model center hammer, loading gate hinged at top, narrow walnut grips, bright finish.
overall L13" barrel L7 3/8"

Provenance: Property deaccessioned from the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso to benefit the Museum Collections Fund. (Accession #54.27.1 inked on forward grip strap). Paper label with State of Texas Inventory #724-17282 on left grip panel.

Other Notes: Only about 250 of these revolvers were produced.

    Condition:
  • Action good. Gun has been cleaned to bright, should be blued and case hardened. No original finish or markings remain; either they were erased during cleaning or gun was not marked, probably erased as there is a ghost of a 58 (part of the patent date) on the left barrel flat.
