U.S. Militia officer's sword circa 1840
copper or brass hilt, helmet pommel, pearl plaque grip, spread eagle counterguard, blued and gilt blade.

Provenance: Property deaccessioned from the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso to benefit the Museum Collections Fund. (Accession #55.3.1 inked on crossguard)

Purchased by Norm Flayderman, Wallingford Hall, Kennebunk, Maine.

Sword is almost certainly the one depicted in the above reference, but the scabbard is missing and the sword has been damaged.

    Condition:
  • Pearl plaques and wire of the hilt are broken, hilt loose with traces of silvering. No finish on blade, smooth, dark gray patina.
