Provenance: Property deaccessioned from the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso to benefit the Museum Collections Fund. (Accession #56.3.5 inked on crossguard)

Purchased by Norm Flayderman, Wallingford Hall, Kennebunk, Maine.

From the most important American sword collection of Philip Medicus, New York, New York.

Literature: Flayderman, Norm AMERICAN SWORDS FROM THE PHILIP MEDICUS COLLECTION. Mowbray Publishers, 1998. p.132, pl.62, #62f.

Flayderman dated this sword to 1815-20, which might be a bit early. It is generally accepted now that these rather elaborate styles were popular in the 1840s.

    Condition:
  • Hilt with traces of silvering, small, recent chip to bone grip at pommel on reverse. Blade retains 95% of blue and gilt, 1" x 1" area of pitting on reverse just below langet. Scabbard retains 85-90% of silvering, with two small dents on either side near drag.
