Valguarniera, Princess Felicita Alliata Di Italian (20th century) FLORAL STILL LIFE oil on panel signed: lower left with monogram H6. 75in W9in *Label on verso, lent by The Willoughby Institution, TL86.18 32 *Note: A very grand and aristocratic lady who studied in Paris with some of the last and latter-day Impressionists. Painted all her life, but her family never allowed her to show publicly since she was a Serene Highness (meaning the family properties were big enough to show on a map of the country, in this case Sicily) but later in her life her niece Princess Topazia Alliata di Salaparut, who operated an art gallery in Rome, managed to convince the clan to permit a show under the title of Flowers by Aunt Felicity, which was arranged by Princess Topazia and Eugene Walter.
