W.W. Greener cased 16-bore grade F.H.25 boxlock ejector sporting gun circa 1912-1913
26 5/8" barrels. Game rib marked: 'W.W. Greener Maker, 68 Haymarket London, Works St. Mary's Square, Birmingham'. Treble Wedge Fastened "Facile Princeps" case hardened reinforced boxlock action engraved 30-40% with fine foliate scroll and floral details. Ejectors. Side safety. Crossbolt. Finely checkered straight grip stock of figured walnut with two inch extension. Checkered butt. Silver oval with initials. Finely checkered splinter forend with horn tip and Deeley style release. Case with Greener label and J Heron on lid with shipping label inside. LOP 14 1/2", DAH 2 1/4", DAC 1 1/2", Right bbl cyl., Left bbl mod., Weight aprx. 6 lbs. SN 61281.

Other Notes: WILLIAM WELLINGTON GREENER was the second of four sons born to William Greener the Elder, b.1806 who was a Gun & Rifle Maker apprenticed to Joseph Manton of London. He set up business on his own in 1829 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. His don, W.W., took over the business upon his father's death in 1869 and moved the business to St. Mary's Row in Birmingham and then to Haymarket Street in London still maintaining the manufacture of guns in Birmingham. He died at age 87 in 1923. The name continues today in his descendent David Dryhurst of W.W. Greener, Ltd.

    Condition:
  • Fine, as partially redone. Barrels show 98% reblued. Bores show some older light pitting. Action shows a polished silver gray patina. Triggerguard and floorplate show 80-90% reblued finish. Refinished stock. Refreshed checkering. Refinished fore end.
