Description:

Zev (Harris, Daniel) American (1919-1987) RENDEVOUS WITH A RONESTEM oil on canvas signed & dated: lower right, 1952 H9.5in W7.5in *Note: Born as Daniel Harris, he took back his family's original Hungarian name, which means "wolf." Inherited a feather duster factory which was discovered to have been operating at a loss for 23years. Built a grand fantasy structure called Crazy Crescent at Big Sur, California, with three-story towers, open air bathtubs inside walls set with semi- precious stone, a three-level kitchen with six horsehair sofas for "innocent bystanders." While Zev lived in Rome, the usual besotted city officials in Big Sur condemned the property, but not before respresentatives of architectural institutes in France and England sent teams to record the Building. Zev has shown at the Petit Palais in Paris, museums and galleries all over the world. He illustrated Eugene Walter's version of Hamlet for monkeys, entitled Singerie- Songerie, and created huge sculptures for a villa in Spain.
