Description:

Annamese blue-and-white bowl, Hoi An Cargo circa 1450
scalloped and upswept rim adorned with petal-form panels centering scene of bird with branch.
H2 1/2" Dia.10 3/4"

Provenance : From the 1999 recovered shipwrecked vessel discovered in 1997. Salvaged from the South China Sea, near the port of Hoi An in the typhoon area known as the "Dragon Sea". The Hai Doung kilns at Red River Delta were the center for early potteries renown for its high quality export ceramics.

Exhibitions: Bearing SAGA/VISAL Hoi An Hoard label, No. 3212.

    Condition:
  • Hairline on one side extending from rim down to center. Crazing to one-sixth of rim on exterior. Upper surface contains stains and marine residue. All glazed decoration worn from exposure.
