Civil War Ames regulation US M1850 presentation sword circa 1863
officer's sword with ornate hilt and 30 1/4-inch engraved blade marked: Ames Mfg. Co., Chicopee, Mass.; within scabbard inscribed and presented to: PRESENTED TO CAPT. ALEX MCLEOD, FROM CONTE OF 16TH WARD, THROUGH JUDGE W.H. BULL, NEW YORK JULY 3, 1863.
Provenance : McLeod mustered in as Captain on the dedication date inscribed on this sword, to Company F of the 84th New York Militia. Captain McLeod participated in skirmishes and battles of the Pennsylvania invasion, and defended the Baltimore and Washington from 1863 to 64.

Scabbard with heavy wear and break to leather at tip just above the brass cap.
