Indian scimitar 18th/19th century
crescent shaped blade and plain handle.
L22"
Provenance : Property from Halcyon Grove, Edgefield, South Carolina.
Other Notes: Included in the memoirs of Percy Marshall Feltham (1879-1958) is a reference to the scimitar, which reads "my great-great grandmother was an Atwood, on my father's side. My great grandmother was an Oates, a sister of Colonel John Oates who commanded the Rock of Gibraltar, and as reported, he is buried on the Rock. I now have in my possession a scimitar picked up by him in the Indian War at the Battle of Seringapatam. The Feltham family, the Oates family and the Atwood family were awarded for their services to the British Government a Coat of Arms with Crests."
