Documents: Rutledge family papers Insurance Policy on Rutledge House in Charleston in the amount of $5,000 for a 2 1/2 story house on the north side of Calhoun Street, near corner of Ashley Street issued by The Liverpool & London & Globe Insurance Company to John and James R. Rutledge, 6 December 1866; with postal note for three cents issued in Augusta, Georgia, 3 September 1888; receipt dated 13 April 1810, signed by Jacob Ford, Charleston attorney, acknowledging the receipt of $1034.70 in satisfaction of a lawsuit; letter from Simpson & Davison & Company, Liverpool, England, 28 October 1816, to General John Rutledge commenting on items shipped.

Provenance: Descended in the Rutledge-Rose Family of Charleston, South Carolina with documents once belonging to Lt. John Rutledge (1820-1894) and his brother, James Rose Rutledge (1827-1899), as well as John Rutledge Jr. (1766-1819) their grandfather.
