Description:

Set of six New York Classical mahogany side chairs, school of Duncan Phyfe circa 1830, serpentine crestrail above lyre-form splat and shaped stiles to serpentine seatrail on serpentine front legs, sweeping rear legs.
BH31 3/4" SH17" W18 1/4" D19" (6pcs)

Provenance: Property of a Southern gentleman's private collection, Charleston, South Carolina.

Literature: The serpentine crestrail and leg configuration of these chairs closely resembles sets Duncan Phyfe made for his daughter, Eliza Vail as illustrated in:
McClelland, Nancy. DUNCAN PHYFE AND THE ENGLISH REGENCY 1795-1830. New York: William R. Scott, 1939, p.126.
