South Carolina documents and currency 8 Confederate bills; 50 bills from banks in South Carolina; 20 envelopes (without the enclosures) addressed to Governor of South Carolina, and probably sent in the 1840's. (Total 78pcs)

Provenance : From the library of August Kohn. August Kohn (1868-1930), Columbia, South Carolina journalist and businessman, assembled one of the finest private libraries of South Caroliniana in the country. He was an avid collector of books, pamphlets and maps related to his beloved native state. A writer of ability, he wrote for the Charleston News and Courier after graduating cum laude from South Carolina College in 1889. He also wrote pamphlets about the towns of Orangeburg and Columbia and, in 1903, published a significant work titled THE COTTON MILLS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
